The upcoming election is the first General Election in Pennsylvania in which voters can take advantage of no-excuse mail-in voting.
For voters who prefer to vote in person, the polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 3rd.
One important difference for in-person voting this year is that Delaware County voters who vote at the polls will use different tools to cast their ballots than they did in 2019 and earlier: a pen and paper ballot and a scanner.
If you’re thinking of serving as a poll worker (yeah, you!) or voting in person, or just want to help folks who plan to vote in-person know what to expect, check out this video and share it with them.
While anyone who votes in person in Delco in the 2020 Primary will have already had the experience of completing a paper ballot at the polls, the use of scanners by voters at the polling place will be new to all in-person voters this fall.
Keep in mind that this video was prepared for the 2020 Primary, pre-COVID-19. It mentions the April Primary and also that voters from different parties will receive different ballots, which is not the case for the General Election on November 3. The rest of the process is the same for the November 3rd General Election.
The absence of masks and other PPE is another indicator that this video was produced prior to the pandemic, but the overall process of voters receiving a ballot, completing a ballot, and scanning their own ballot themselves remains the same.
